Division Chief Dan Garretto is a certified Florida Firefighter/ Paramedic currently assigned as the Division Chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for the Upper Captiva Fire Protection & Rescue Service District. DC Garretto began his fire service career in 2008 as a Firefighter/EMT with Bayshore Fire & Rescue. DC Garretto attended Edison State College in 2008-2011 where he obtained certificates in Emergency Medical Services. He advanced his knowledge of Fire/EMS with continuing education through Target Solutions CEU provider, Code Blue Technology and Rescue Resources LLC, among many other training facilities. In 2014, DC Garretto continued his career with Greater Naples Fire Rescue District and Upper Captiva Fire Protection & Rescue Service District. He subsequently served as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Driver/Engineer, and Lieutenant/Paramedic.

DC Garretto works under the administration direction of the Assistant Chief and Fire Chief for UCFRD. He is to direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate assigned EMS programs and activities within UCFRD. His job is to provide and obtain extensive knowledge of EMS program management, training, public education, and compliance requirements. He plans and coordinates district activities with other sections, agencies, and jurisdictions. DC Garretto assumes overall management responsibility for emergency medical services provided within Upper Captiva Fire Protection & Rescue Service District.

DC Garretto holds a Florida State EMT and Paramedic certification. He also holds a National Registry EMT-B certification. He is an Instructor for American Heart Association and teaches the following disciplines: (ACLS) Advanced Cardio Life Support, (PALS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and (BLS) Basic Life Support. He is an instructor for Healthcare Provider or Heartsaver courses: Adult, Child, Infant CPR AED, First Aid, Choking.
DC Garretto has vast experience and knowledge of wildland fire suppression. As an Officer / Instructor, he holds a cert requirement in the Incident Management System as a Task Force/Strike Team Leader. He demonstrates the ability to apply appropriate tactics with assigned resources organized into strike teams or task forces. He is a member of (SERP) Statewide Emergency Response Plan, in which he has been deployed statewide for hurricanes and other emergency disasters.

DC Garretto also has an extensive array of knowledge in special operations and is a former (USAR) Urban Search & Rescue member with FL Task Force #6. His role as a Rescue Specialist included holding a Technician Level in all 5 disciplines of Rope Rescue, Confined Space, Structural Collapse, Trench Rescue and Vehicle Extrication. He is also a HAZMAT Technician. DC Garretto is currently a member of GNFD Technical Rescue Team, LTRT-#635 as a Rescue Specialist. He is a member of the GNFD (MERT) Marine Emergency Response Team as a boat operator of a 36’ Courageous Metal Shark. DC Garretto is a member of GNFD Dive Team as a rescue/recovery diver.

DC Garretto holds specialty certifications that may be beneficial to the department. He is a certified rescue diver in which he possesses NAUI, PSDA, Public Safety Diver 1, PSD Specialties: Full Face Mask Certified and Dry suit Diver. He also holds Swiftwater Rescue Operations training. He is an avid NASBLA boat operator with 25+ years of experience on the water, inshore and offshore. DC Garretto is a qualified captain in which he possesses a 50 Ton Masters Mariners Captains License credentialed through the United States Coast Guard, along with an OUPV Six Pack, that allows him to operate inspected vessels with 7 or more passengers.
