Van Hammond joined the UCFRD Board of Commissioners in November 2022.

Van and his wife Sara have been Island homeowners since 2016, and have been full time residents as of November 2021.  Van feels a deep love of North Captiva and serving on the UCFRD board of Commissioners is one way to give back to our island community in a meaningful way.

Van grew up in Boulder Colorado and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder.  Upon graduation he started his career in telecommunications.  Throughout his career, Van has held various Senior Management positions including Director of Network Operations for a nationwide E-911 provider, and Vice President of Global Product Operations where he managed support and professional service teams across the globe.  He continues to consult as a remote worker from his “island office”.  Van and Sara share four grown boys who love to visit North Captiva.

As Commissioner, Van will be a passionate advocate for open communication and transparency with regards to Fire District projects and community issues.  He welcomes input from homeowners, community groups, and the workers that support our island.  North Captiva is a special community that deserves the very best support from the UCFRD.
